After fourteen years in prison, the embittered Dantes escapes, uncovers the hidden Monte Cristo treasure from a map given him by a fellow prisoner, and sets out to inflict his revenge for the terrible scheme that has ruined his dreams and life. The newer version, with Jim Caviezel is bland and less believable, largely because Caviezel cannot compete with Chamberlain's PASSION and style.

No one has the ability to wear such gorgeous costumes and capes with more grandeur and style. Richard Chamberlain can always be COUNTed on to provide stately charm and class.
