The Dumas Classics are full of adventure and intrigue. As part of The Literary Masterpieces Collection, this classic tale of romance, revenge and retribution, is my favorite of all Alexandre Dumas tales. Richard Chamberlain gives a most commanding performance as The Count Of Monte Cristo. As Edmond Dantes, the versatile Richard Chamberlain played the gallant navy officer, unjustly imprisoned on the eve of his wedding, by people he trusted. After fourteen years in prison, the embittered Dantes escapes, uncovers the hidden Monte Cristo treasure from a map given him by a fellow prisoner, and sets out to inflict his revenge for the terrible scheme that has ruined his dreams and life. The newer version, with Jim Caviezel is bland and less believable, largely because Caviezel cannot compete with Chamberlain's PASSION and style.
Richard Chamberlain was created to play this role with his long, lean, graceful body and beautifully carved facial features. No one has the ability to wear such gorgeous costumes and capes with more grandeur and style. Richard Chamberlain can always be COUNTed on to provide stately charm and class. When he approaches the castle, majestically enthroned atop his stately steed, cape flowing in the wind, intent on implementing his plan for revenge and retribution, there is no doubt...Richard Chamberlain...IS...The Count Of Monte Cristo!
